Inaugurated in 1976, this bronze monument by sculptor Manuel Silvestre Montesinos (known as Silvestre de Edeta) is a tribute to the importance of water in the region. Its design is highly symbolic: the River Turia: The central reclining male figure represents the Turia River, which formerly flowed through the city. He holds a Cornucopia (horn of plenty) overflowing with the fruits of the Valencian orchards. The Eight Acequias: Surrounding the central figure are eight bronze female statues. Each represents one of the eight major irrigation channels (acequias) that historically distributed the river’s water to the surrounding agricultural lands (huerta).
